FAQs
Can a foreigner own real estate in Mexico?

As of 1994 Mexican Law allows foreigners to acquire land in
Mexico within the "restricted zone", defined as property within
100 km / approximately 60 miles from any Mexican border and
within 50 km / approximately 30 miles of the Mexican coastline.

One way is through a land trust called "Fideicomiso", where the
foreign purchaser becomes the Beneficiary. The beneficiary has
the right to use, occupy and posses the property, including the
rights to build, improve, sell, transfer, lease, mortgage, profit,
inherit and will the property.

Another way is through a Mexican corporation, created by two
partners of which both can be foreigners. The Mexican
corporation can purchase real property and operate businesses.
